DESIGN AROUND THE ALTAR – GABRIELLA CRESPI

Gabriella Crespi amazing design pieces are exhibited at Volumnia Gallery.

The gallery location is absolutely unique, infact it’s inside the deconsecrated church of Sant Agostino in Piacenza, and Gabreilla Crespi Design was exhibited during our visit.

This amazing location has been taken over by the great gallerist Enrica De Micheli.

The church is a basilica of 3,000 square meters, with 5 navate and it’s even bigger than Duomo of Piacenza.

Volumnia is a project around design and art that dresses the spaces of this amazing church with elevations from the 1700.

Since the Salone del Mobile was over, it was time to go and explore new things for our interior design projects.

Being always on the hunt of amazing locations and design/art pieces for our interiors, we decided that we couldn’t miss this exhibition of Gabriella Crespi Design.

Entering the gallery you feel the classic atmosphere of an Italian church, but you are immediately captured by the beauty of the design pieces carefully placed around the church.

The exhibition includes objects and furnishings from the collection of the gallerist Enrica De Micheli, the Gabriella Crespi Archive, and other private collections.

Born in 1922, Gabriella Crespi studies architecture at the Politecnico in Milan, where her work is permeated by her perspective on Le Corbusier’s and Frank Lloyd Wright’s design experience.

Since the 1950s, she has dedicated herself to the creation and worldwide circulation of furniture and other objects that balance design and sculptural abstraction.

Gabriella Crespi’s design pieces where carefully located in strategic places, and we have really appreciated that most of the pieces were placed on raised mirrored platform, so that visitor’s could easily appreciate also the underside of the pieces. The curator was Jospeh Grima, and that’s for sure a great addition to this unique gallery.
